It is said that over 85% of a human body is water. We use it for fire fighting, cleaning, personal hygiene, industrial processing and most important; we drink it.  Water is everywhere, and it is a vital part of our lives.

Kitsap PUD is responsible for water management for Kitsap County.  This includes acquisition, management and preservation of this critical and valuable resource. Kitsap PUD owns 56 domestic water systems throughout a service area of over 400 square miles.  The largest of these, North Peninsula Water System, has over 4,000 connections. In addition Kitsap PUD provides management services (SMA) to over 120 other (satellite) water systems within the county.. In all Kitsap PUD provides some level of domestic water service to over 50,000 Kitsap County residents.

Public drinking water systems are regulated by the United States Environmental Protection Agency and the Washington State Department of Health.  These regulations cover such things as water quality, system design, operator competency, etc.  In fact, it is probable that the domestic water industry is the most heavily regulated industry in the world!
