Water Quality Reports for PUD Water Systems

Back

In 1996, the United States Congress amended the Safe Drinking Water Act to require annual reports of water quality from water systems serving 15 or more connections. These reports – called Consumer Confidence Reports, or CCRs – are meant to educate consumers on the quality of their drinking water and the steps their utility take to ensure this quality is consistent with Safe Drinking Water Act guidelines. Although these reports are produced every year, many water quality tests are conducted on a less frequent basis. Because of this, some of the data that appears on your current CCR may be two, or even three, years old. This is a function of the schedule by which utilities sample for different contaminants.

Typically Group A water systems (15 connections or more) sample each source according to the following schedule:

Sample

Frequency

Bacteriologic

Monthly

Nitrates

Annually

Inorganic Chemicals

Every Three Years

Organic Chemicals

Every Three Years

Radionuclides

Every Four Years

Lead and Copper

Varies by system size and sampling history
