UPDATED 8/12 – Keyport Water Customers – Temporary System Changes

Attention KPUD Keyport Water Customers

August 12, 2026 – System Update: Primary Well Rehabilitation and Maintenance

As previously shared, the primary well serving the Keyport Water System has been operating at reduced capacity for some time. Beginning Monday, August 17, 2026, KPUD will take the primary well fully offline for approximately two weeks while rehabilitation and maintenance work is completed.

The work will include removing the well pump followed by rehabilitation and cleaning of the well and well screen. Once rehabilitation is complete, the well pump will be reinstalled, and the well will be returned to service. KPUD will continue to monitor its performance as we work to increase its capacity and restore it as the primary well serving the system.

During this work, the backup well will continue to provide water service to the community. Use of the backup well is part of the system’s design and helps maintain reliable service while work is being completed on the primary well.

Customers may continue to notice temporary aesthetic changes in the water, including differences in color, odor, or taste. While these changes may be noticeable, all water provided through the system continues to meet state and federal drinking water standards and remains safe for drinking, cooking, and everyday use.

June 17, 2026 – System Update: Status Remains Unchanged

Since the May 28 notice, KPUD has continued moving forward with planning for rehabilitation of the primary well. While there is no significant change in project status at this time, we wanted to provide customers with an update and reassure the community that the backup well continues to provide safe, reliable drinking water.

While we understand customers are eager for progress, these steps are necessary to ensure the work is completed properly and in accordance with required procedures. We appreciate your patience as we move through the process.

The backup well remains available to serve the community as designed. Use of the backup well is not unusual and helps ensure reliable water service while maintenance and rehabilitation work are completed on the primary well system.

Some customers may continue to notice temporary aesthetic changes in the water, such as differences in color, odor, or taste. These changes can be noticeable, but all water provided through the system continues to meet state and federal drinking water standards and remains safe for drinking, cooking, and everyday use.

KPUD will continue to closely monitor water quality and will provide additional updates as new information becomes available.

May 28, 2026

Due to reduced performance of the primary well serving the Keyport Water System, KPUD will likely need to temporarily place the backup well into service while repairs and rehabilitation work are completed on the primary well system.

Although we will move through this process as quickly as possible, the work must follow required project planning and bidding procedures.

During this time, customers may notice temporary aesthetic changes in the water, including differences in color, odor, or possibly taste. While these changes may be noticeable, all water provided through the system continues to meet state and federal drinking water standards and remains safe for drinking, cooking, and everyday use.

We understand that changes in water characteristics can be concerning, and we appreciate your patience and understanding as we work through this temporary situation. KPUD will continue to closely monitor water quality throughout this period. As we work toward rehabilitation of the primary well we will provide updates as more information becomes available.
