What is Water Festival?
Water Festival is a day for invited students to learn all about water. Groundwater, drinking water, and stormwater are all part of this precious resource and are all connected to Puget Sound. Staff and volunteers from area organizations provide hands-on learning to show students where their water comes from and how their everyday actions affect water quality.
What are the goals of the festival?
The Kitsap Water Festival encompasses much more than just fun and games. Students, teachers, and chaperones learn:
- The necessity of clean water
- How their actions affect water quality
- The causes and effects of pollution
- Where their drinking water comes from
- The concept and importance of water conservation
What does the day look like?
Over a thousand Kitsap County third and fourth grade students arrive at the Kitsap County Fairgrounds and divide into groups called hawks, flounders, stoneflies, and other animals found in local habitats. Each group has school chaperones, a map, and a schedule. They can attend two or three 30-minute classroom presentations, an assembly program, have Exhibit Hall time and lunch.
