Kitsap Public Utility District (KPUD) has been awarded almost $1 million grant funding from the Washington State Public Works Board to expand access to high-speed fiber internet for approximately 200 unserved homes in rural areas of Kitsap County.
The project will extend KPUD's publicly owned, open-access fiber network to eligible homes that currently lack access to broadband service meeting Washington state's broadband standards. Once construction is complete, customers will be able to choose from multiple independent internet service providers offering service on the KPUD network.
Reliable broadband plays an important role in connecting people to work, education, healthcare, emergency services, and everyday online activities. Fiber infrastructure also provides the speed and reliability needed to support the community's future connectivity needs.
Eligible property owners have already been contacted by mail. Residents can also visit kpudfiber.org and search their address to check whether their address is included in the project area and learn more about available service.
Construction is expected to begin later this year, with project completion by December 31, 2026.
