Partnership Celebration is Key Milestone for South Bainbridge Water System
On March 5, a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the South Bainbridge Reservoirs Project at Deerpath Lane marked a significant step in improving the resiliency of the South Bainbridge Water System. Funded in part by the EPA’s Drinking Water State Revolving Fund (DWSRF), the project reflects a strong partnership between the Bainbridge Island Land Trust and the Bainbridge Island Metro Park & Recreation District.
Though the new reservoirs are still a few weeks from full operation, the event celebrated the completion of critical infrastructure improvements. Initially, the project aimed to develop a new water-supply well, but after drilling, the decision was made to focus on constructing three new above-ground reservoirs, which will replace the old ones. These reservoirs add over 230,000 gallons of water storage, improving the island's water system’s resiliency and sustainability.
The project also enhances public safety with fenced infrastructure, better trail access, and additional parking spaces for public use. It plays a crucial role in protecting a vital watershed area while improving water service for local residents.
This project is part of a larger, phased plan to improve the South Bainbridge Water System, which serves about 4,500 people. It includes water main replacement, filtration, and consolidation of standalone water systems to ensure a reliable, sustainable water supply for the community.
