Coordinated City and Utility District Response Contains Small-Scale On-Site Sewage Release
On January 8, 2026, the City of Bainbridge Island and Kitsap Public Utility District responded to a small-scale, on-site sewage spill that occurred during construction for the Fort Ward Intertie Project on Fort Hill Road. Crews immediately contained the release and began cleanup, limiting the spill to the work area. A small amount entered a nearby forested area, with no impact to waterways or drinking water systems. The incident was reported to the Washington State Department of Ecology, and cleanup efforts are ongoing.
