Water Cycle Terrarium

Build your own terrarium and see the water cycle in action:
  1. Find a clear container such as a large jar.
  2. Place about 1/2 inch of gravel at the bottom of the jar.
  3. Cover the gravel with 2 inches of topsoil.
  4. Plant small plants and moss and gently water until moist.
  5. Cover the top of the container with plastic wrap.
  6. Keep the terrarium in a moderately sunny spot.

Watch for droplets condensing on the plastic. Your plants will be watered through evapotranspiration, evaporation and condensation and precipitation. There you have - the water cycle!
